Alexey Sorokin and Evgeny Kuivashev Agree on Co-operation in Preparation for the Games in Ekaterinburg

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin decreed that the World Friendship Games 2024 be held in Moscow and Ekaterinburg. The competition will take place from 15 to 29 September 2024. In the Ural, 115 sets of medals will be awarded in eight sports: Swimming, Diving, Artistic Swimming, Athletics, Judo, Women’s Basketball, Ju-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). About two thousand athletes are expected to participate.

“The Sverdlovsk Region has vast experience in preparing and organising major events, including international competitions. All infrastructure has been created: sports, transportation, and hospitality. We must use this experience, as well as the legacy of the University International Sports Festival, to ensure that the World Friendship Games 2024 are held at the highest level,” said Governor Evgeny Kuivashev.

One of the key tasks in preparation for the biggest sports event of the year is to create the most comfortable conditions for participants and guests of the World Friendship Games 2024, as well as for the residents of the Sverdlovsk Region.

As part of the agreement, the Government of the Sverdlovsk Region will take care of a number of organisational issues. Special attention will be paid to security, transportation, medical and volunteer support of the competitions. ANO “Organising Committee “World Friendship Games” will ensure coordination of work at all stages.

Four sports venues are planned to be used for the World Friendship Games 2024 in Ekaterinburg: the Palace of Water Sports, the Judo Arena, the Kalininets Athletics Stadium, and the Palace of Team Sports.
